Chopsticks originated in China, and are the traditional eating utensils of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. Wooden chopsticks are particularly effective as they do not conduct heat up to your hands and the surface texture of the wood provides a good grip for holding food.

These traditional Ironwood Chopsticks by d-line are the perfect companion for when you are eating your Asian foods. A pack of 4 pairs makes eating for the whole family fun, practical and cheap.

Instructions:

  1.  Place one chopstick between the palm and the base of your thumb using your ring finger (the fourth finger) to support the lower part of the stick. With your thumb, squeeze the chopstick down, while your ring finger pushes it up. The stick should be stationary and very stable.
  2. Use the tips of your thumb, index and middle fingers to hold the other stick like a pen. Ensure the tips of the two chopsticks line up.
  3. You will now be able to pivot the top chopstick in a pincer movement towards the lower, stationery chopstick. With this motion, one can pick up many different types and sizes of food.
  4. With enough practice, the two chopsticks function like a pair of pincers.

Tips: Chopsticks generally should be held at the thicker end, about a third along their length, for balance and efficiency. For greater reach to pick up food further away, hold chopsticks at the upper ends. If the tips fail to line up, it will be difficult to grip things. Hold the chopsticks upright with one of the tips lightly touching the table, and gently push the chopsticks down or gently loosen your grip for a moment to let both tips become equal in length. You can also adjust your grip or holding position this way.
