Why choose a pre-seasoned Chapa griddle plate?

No chemicals or PTFE are used in the coating. The edible flax oil creates a naturally non-stick surface ready for immediate use and can be easily restored at home, time after time. Iron is a simple, pure metal that is highly recyclable, and the griddle is exceptionally tough, able to withstand high-temperature cooking with ease.

What’s special about this griddle plate?

The solid black iron construction ensures even heat distribution and excellent cooking performance. Each plate is spun and assembled by hand, giving a slightly unique character to every piece. Cooking on a Chapa encourages slow, controlled heating to preserve the griddle’s flatness and longevity. After use, proper care will allow the griddle to develop a seasoned patina that improves with every meal.

Features:

Helper Handle, Induction-Capable, Metal Utensil Safe, Oven-Safe

Material:

Iron

Size:

31cm

Your Netherton Foundry Chapa griddle plate is crafted from durable spun iron and pre-seasoned with flax oil for a naturally non-stick surface. With just a little regular care, it will serve you beautifully for years to come.

Before First Use

Your griddle plate arrives pre-seasoned and ready to cook. There is no need to strip or re-season it before you begin. Simply rinse it in hot water (no detergent), dry thoroughly, and begin cooking.

Cleaning After Use

  • Always allow the griddle to cool slightly before cleaning
  • Wash in warm water using a non-abrasive brush or sponge
  • Avoid dish soap and never place it in a dishwasher
  • Do not soak or leave standing in water, as this can lead to rust
  • Dry immediately and thoroughly with a clean tea towel
  • Once dry, apply a light coating of flaxseed oil or vegetable oil using a paper towel to protect the surface

Re-seasoning (When Needed)

Over time, the seasoned surface may wear down or become patchy. If food begins to stick or the iron looks dull, it’s time to re-season:

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C
  • Rub a very thin layer of flaxseed oil over the entire surface (top and underside)
  • Place the griddle upside down in the oven with a baking tray beneath to catch drips
  • Bake for 1 hour, then turn the oven off and allow the griddle to cool completely before removing
  • Repeat if needed for a more robust coating

General Care Tips

  • Always preheat slowly over low to medium heat before cooking, especially on induction or high-powered hobs
  • Use wooden, silicone, or metal utensils — spun iron is tough
  • Avoid drastic temperature changes (e.g. plunging into cold water when hot), which can cause warping
  • Store in a dry place — if stacking with other cookware, place a cloth or paper towel between items

Netherton Foundry is a proudly family-owned business in the heart of South Shropshire, once known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Where smokestacks once dominated the skyline, today there is a gentler rhythm to life, but the legacy of innovation remains.

Drawing deep inspiration from Shropshire’s iron masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially Abraham Darby, the pioneer behind the world’s first iron bridge, Netherton Foundry blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern environmental conscience. Their work reimagines the spirit of that extraordinary era, honouring its ingenuity while being mindful of the environmental lessons it left behind.

Each product is a celebration of heritage, quality, and sustainability, reflecting a time when things were made to last and made with care.
