Why is this griddle a must-have?

This bell and plate set transforms any oven into a mini baking oven or hearth. It’s ideal not only for sourdough but also for flatbreads, pizzas, focaccia, and even roasted vegetables or meats. Whether you’re a weekend baker or a serious home chef, the Netherton baking bell helps you achieve bakery-quality results with authenticity and ease.

It’s also a joy to clean and maintain. The flax oil coating can be easily refreshed at home, and unlike synthetic non-stick pans, this one just keeps getting better with use. With proper care, it will serve generations of cooks.

Why choose a pre-seasoned iron pan?

Iron pans are tough and can be used at very high temperatures. This iron pan is suitable for all types of hobs and stovetops. Iron is a pure, simple metal that is easy to look after & very recyclable.

The edible Sussex flax oil coating is easy to wash & naturally non-stick. It is ready for immediate use. No chemicals or PTFE are used in the coating of this pan. Coating can be simply restored at home, time after time.

Every product Netherton Foundry makes is part of its family’s story. A blend of heritage, sustainability and craftsmanship that is made to serve your family for years to come.

Caring for Your Netherton Foundry Baking Dome and Griddle

Using Your Pre-Seasoned Griddle and Dome for the First Time

  • Your baking dome and griddle set is pre-seasoned and ready to use.
  • Before first use, rinse both pieces in hot water only (no soap or detergent), then dry thoroughly.
  • For best results, we recommend applying a very light coating of flax oil to both the griddle and the inside of the dome. This helps strengthen the seasoned surface and improves natural non-stick performance over time.

Re-Seasoning Your Baking Dome and Griddle

Over time and with regular use, the seasoned layer may wear down. Re-seasoning will restore protection and enhance cooking performance.

To re-season:

  • If any rust appears, gently remove it with fine sandpaper or steel wool
  • Wash both the dome and griddle in very hot, soapy water using a stiff brush or scouring pad
  • Rinse and dry both pieces thoroughly
  • Using a clean cotton cloth, apply a very thin layer of edible flax oil to all surfaces. Thin coats are best
  • Place both items on an oven rack with a tray or foil beneath to catch drips
  • Slowly heat the oven to 250°C
  • Once the temperature is reached, bake for 1 hour
  • Switch off the oven and allow both pieces to cool completely inside
  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place

This process can be repeated as needed to maintain performance.

Daily Use Tips

  • Always preheat the griddle slowly to reduce sticking and improve even heat distribution
  • Allow refrigerated dough or ingredients to come to room temperature before cooking
  • Use oven gloves when handling both pieces, especially after baking, as they retain heat for a long time
  • Avoid placing cold water on a hot iron, as this may cause warping
  • The dome can be used inside the oven or over the griddle on the stovetop to create an enclosed baking environment

Cooking with Acidic Ingredients

Acidic ingredients such as tomato sauces or citrus-based glazes can wear down the seasoning over time.

  • Consider re-seasoning before and after baking with acidic elements
  • If you notice rust or dullness, follow the re-seasoning steps

Cleaning Your Griddle and Dome

  • Do not place either piece in the dishwasher
  • Never soak or leave wet, and avoid plunging into cold water when hot
  • Wash using hot water and a stiff brush
  • Do not use soap or detergents
  • For stuck-on residue, place it in the oven with a small amount of water and heat gently to loosen
  • Dry both items immediately and thoroughly
  • Optionally, apply a light coat of flax oil before storing

Best Oils for Re-Seasoning

Use: Edible flax oil (also called linseed oil)
Avoid: Olive oil, nut oils, and boiled linseed oil (not edible)

Storing Your Baking Dome and Griddle

  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated area
  • Do not cover tightly or wrap in plastic, as trapped moisture can cause rust
  • If stacking, place baking paper or a soft cloth between them to protect the surfaces

Every Netherton Foundry piece is handcrafted, so natural variations are to be expected. The griddle may not be perfectly flat, which is normal for spun iron. To keep the base in good condition and ensure continued performance, follow these usage guidelines:

  • Always begin with a low heat and increase gradually
  • Match the hob or ring size to the griddle base
  • Never expose a hot iron to cold water or drop it into a sink

With consistent care, your Netherton Foundry baking dome and griddle will deliver exceptional baking results for years to come.

Netherton Foundry is a proudly family-owned business in the heart of South Shropshire, once known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Where smokestacks once dominated the skyline, today there is a gentler rhythm to life, but the legacy of innovation remains.

Drawing deep inspiration from Shropshire’s iron masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially Abraham Darby, the pioneer behind the world’s first iron bridge, Netherton Foundry blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern environmental conscience. Their work reimagines the spirit of that extraordinary era, honouring its ingenuity while being mindful of the environmental lessons it left behind.

Each product is a celebration of heritage, quality, and sustainability, reflecting a time when things were made to last and made with care.
