A traditional cake tin that’s built to last for generations.
This deep, loose-bottom tin is designed for serious bakers who want a classic tin with effortless release. Whether you’re baking a rich fruitcake, a festive Christmas cake, or a show-stopping celebration sponge, this handcrafted tin ensures even results and easy handling.
Made in Shropshire from thick black iron, both the deep tin and removable base are spun and pressed from 99.1% pure iron and pre-seasoned with flax oil for a natural non-stick finish. The sturdy side wall is fixed with a brass Netherton Foundry rivet, adding both strength and signature style. The loose base simply pops up to make cake removal easy, without damaging the delicate crumb.
Black iron has outstanding heat retention and distribution, meaning you’ll get evenly baked results, even in high-temperature ovens. This tin is free from chemical coatings and built to handle heat up to at least 300ºC, making it ideal for everything from classic sponge cakes to dense fruit bakes.

This spun black iron cake tin is designed to give you a lifetime of dependable use when cared for properly. With its natural flax oil seasoning, it is easy to maintain and improves over time.
Before first use:
- Your cake tin is pre-seasoned and ready to use straight away.
- If you’d like to reinforce the non-stick layer, lightly oil the inside surfaces and place the empty tin in a warm oven (100–120°C) for 30 minutes, then allow to cool. This step is optional, but can deepen the protective layer.
Cleaning:
- Do not soak or place in the dishwasher.
- Wash by hand using warm water and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid detergents if possible, as these can strip the seasoning.
- If food is stuck, use a pan scraper or a gentle scrub with coarse salt and water, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Drying:
- Dry immediately after washing using a tea towel.
- Place the tin in a warm oven (around 100°C) for 5–10 minutes or on a low stovetop burner to ensure it is completely dry before storing. This prevents rust.
Re-seasoning:
- If your tin loses its non-stick quality or develops light rust, simply clean it, dry thoroughly, and rub a thin layer of flaxseed oil or other food-grade oil over the interior. Heat in the oven at 180–200°C for one hour, then allow to cool in the oven.
- Repeat the process if needed to restore a rich dark patina.
Storage:
- Store in a dry place.
- Do not cover with plastic or keep in airtight containers when still warm. Let it breathe to avoid moisture build-up.
With each use and proper care, your tin will continue to develop a beautiful dark patina and a smooth, naturally non-stick surface that only gets better with time.
Netherton Foundry is a proudly family-owned business in the heart of South Shropshire, once known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Where smokestacks once dominated the skyline, today there is a gentler rhythm to life, but the legacy of innovation remains.
Drawing deep inspiration from Shropshire’s iron masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially Abraham Darby, the pioneer behind the world’s first iron bridge, Netherton Foundry blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern environmental conscience. Their work reimagines the spirit of that extraordinary era, honouring its ingenuity while being mindful of the environmental lessons it left behind.
Each product is a celebration of heritage, quality, and sustainability, reflecting a time when things were made to last and made with care.
