Tough, timeless, and made to move seamlessly from oven to table.

The Netherton Foundry Prospector Roasting Tray is a workhorse of British cookware, crafted for cooks who need strength and versatility in the kitchen. Built in Shropshire using pure black iron and finished with hand-welded detail, this tray is equally at home roasting a chicken, searing over flames, or being presented straight to the table. With wide rims and easy-grip handles, it’s ideal for anyone who values function, form, and a touch of heritage craftsmanship.

Designed for serious heat and serious flavour, this tray can be used on all hob types, in the oven, under the grill, over a fire, or even on the barbecue. The black iron is pre-seasoned with organic flax oil to give it a naturally non-stick surface that improves with use. The handmade brass-riveted handles offer control and durability, while the classic design brings rustic charm to any setting.

This is more than a roasting tray, it’s a cooking essential made to last a lifetime. Whether you’re frying, baking, roasting, or grilling, the Prospector tray delivers reliable performance and authentic British design in every use.

  • Internal width: 22.8 cm

Create beautifully crisp cases for canapés, desserts, or petits fours with this brilliantly efficient double croustade iron. It’s an heirloom-quality tool designed for high-heat frying and sure to become a favourite among adventurous cooks.

Care:

Your Prospector Roasting Tray is pre-seasoned with flax oil and ready to use immediately. Simply rinse with hot water (no soap or detergent), dry thoroughly, and begin cooking. For best results, apply a light coating of flax oil before first use to deepen the natural seasoning.

After cooking, wash the tray by hand with hot water and a stiff brush or non-abrasive pad. Avoid using detergents or placing the tray in the dishwasher. If food is stuck, gently boil a little water in the tray to loosen residue before cleaning.

Always dry the tray immediately and completely after washing to prevent rust. Once dry, apply a very thin layer of flax oil to all surfaces. Store in a dry, well-ventilated space. Do not cover tightly, as trapped moisture can cause rust.

Avoid sudden temperature changes. Never place a hot tray into cold water or on a cold surface, as this may warp the metal. Heat the tray slowly, especially when using induction hobs, and use a hob that matches the size of the tray base.

If re-seasoning is needed:

  • Remove any rust using fine sandpaper or steel wool
  • Wash with very hot, soapy water and scrub thoroughly
  • Dry completely and apply a thin coating of flax oil
  • Bake at 250°C for one hour, then let cool slowly in the oven

With proper care, your Prospector tray will develop a rich, durable patina and become more non-stick with every use. It is built to serve you for decades.

Netherton Foundry is a proudly family-owned business in the heart of South Shropshire, once known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Where smokestacks once dominated the skyline, today there is a gentler rhythm to life, but the legacy of innovation remains.

Drawing deep inspiration from Shropshire’s iron masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially Abraham Darby, the pioneer behind the world’s first iron bridge, Netherton Foundry blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern environmental conscience. Their work reimagines the spirit of that extraordinary era, honouring its ingenuity while being mindful of the environmental lessons it left behind.

Each product is a celebration of heritage, quality, and sustainability, reflecting a time when things were made to last and made with care.
