With the right care, your Netherton Foundry pan will last for generations. Follow these simple guidelines to keep it cooking beautifully.
Cleaning After Use:
- Wash by hand in warm water using a soft cloth or brush.
- Avoid detergents or dishwashers, as they can strip the natural flax oil seasoning.
- Dry the pan thoroughly straight after washing to prevent rust.
- Rub a light layer of cooking oil over the surface before storing.
General Use Tips:
- Always heat the pan slowly to cooking temperature, especially on powerful hobs like induction.
- Use a hob ring the same size as the pan’s base to avoid warping.
- Do not drop a hot pan into cold water. Allow it to cool before cleaning.
- If food sticks, simmer a little water in the pan to loosen it, then clean as usual.
Re-seasoning Your Pan:
Over time, or if the seasoning becomes patchy, you may need to re-season your pan.
For best results, use the oven method:
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Apply a thin, even layer of flax oil to the entire surface, inside and out.
- Place the pan upside down in the oven with a tray underneath to catch drips.
- Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and allow the pan to cool inside.
- Repeat the process if needed. Each layer builds up the non-stick patina.
If your oven is too small, you can season the pan on the hob, but be aware that this may produce smoke and create a patchier finish.
Storage:
- Store in a dry place with airflow to prevent moisture build-up.
- Stack with care or hang by the handle to protect the cooking surface.
- A light coat of oil before long-term storage will help prevent rust.
With regular use and care, your spun iron pan will develop a rich black patina and remain a reliable cooking companion for life.
Netherton Foundry is a proudly family-owned business in the heart of South Shropshire, once known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Where smokestacks once dominated the skyline, today there is a gentler rhythm to life, but the legacy of innovation remains.
Drawing deep inspiration from Shropshire’s iron masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially Abraham Darby, the pioneer behind the world’s first iron bridge, Netherton Foundry blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern environmental conscience. Their work reimagines the spirit of that extraordinary era, honouring its ingenuity while being mindful of the environmental lessons it left behind.
Each product is a celebration of heritage, quality, and sustainability, reflecting a time when things were made to last and made with care.
