Seasoning Your Tray Before Use:
- Wash and Dry: Wash the tray in warm water and dry thoroughly. Ensure the pan is completely cool before seasoning.
- Oil Lightly: Coat the entire tray—inside and out—with a thin layer of vegetable or cooking oil (most types are suitable).
- Wipe Off Excess: Use a paper towel or dry cloth to remove as much oil as possible. The surface should feel slightly slippery, not wet.
- Bake to Season: Place the tray in a preheated oven at 250°C for 50 minutes.
- Cool and Wipe: Remove from the oven, allow to cool, and wipe off any excess oil.
Tip: If a sticky or baked-on film forms after seasoning, too much oil was applied. Scour clean and repeat the process with less oil. The goal is a thin, absorbed layer, not a surface coating.
Regular use will continue to build up the seasoning, improving non-stick performance and rust resistance over time.
Maximizing Performance:
- Preheat Before Use: Always preheat the tray before adding food, but do not heat it higher than your required cooking temperature, as this may cause warping.
- Cleaning: After use, rinse in hot water only and dry thoroughly to prevent rust. Avoid soaking.
- Oiling for Storage: If storing for long periods, lightly oil the surface to maintain protection.
- Do Not: Use strong detergents, scour off the seasoned surface, or place in a dishwasher.
- Natural Patina: The tray will gradually turn black with use — this is normal and desirable, much like a seasoned wok. Do not attempt to remove this coating.
