This spun iron sauté pan is designed to develop a lasting patina and deliver excellent cooking results for generations if properly cared for. Below are the key steps to keep it in top condition.
Cleaning after use
- Wash by hand only, never in a dishwasher
- Use hot water and a non-abrasive brush or cloth
- Avoid using detergents unless necessary
- Do not soak in water or leave wet, as this may lead to rust
- Dry thoroughly straight after washing; place on a warm hob to evaporate moisture
Everyday maintenance
- After drying, apply a light film of oil (such as flaxseed or rapeseed) to the cooking surface while warm
- Wipe off any excess oil before storing
- If the lid becomes damp or food-stained, clean with hot water, dry well, and oil lightly to protect the iron
Re-seasoning (when needed)
- If the non-stick surface appears dull or patchy, re-seasoning will restore it
- Remove the wooden handle cover and lid knob before oven seasoning
- Preheat your oven to around 200°C
- Rub a very thin layer of flaxseed oil onto the cooking surface and place the pan upside down in the oven for 1 hour
- Allow to cool in the oven, then reattach the handle cover and lid knob
Handle and storage care
- The oak handle cover and lid knob are not dishwasher safe; wipe clean only
- Avoid leaving wooden parts damp or near direct heat sources
- Store the pan in a dry cupboard or on a hanging rack; if stacking, place a cloth between pans to prevent abrasion
Usage tips
- Always heat the pan slowly, especially on induction hobs
- Use a burner that matches the size of the base to avoid warping
- Never pour cold water into a hot pan
- Ideal for use at high temperatures; the more it’s used, the better it performs
With a little ongoing care, this sauté pan will reward you with excellent cooking results and a rich, natural patina that only gets better with age. Think of it not just as cookware but as a kitchen heirloom in the making.

Netherton Foundry is a proudly family-owned business in the heart of South Shropshire, once known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Where smokestacks once dominated the skyline, today there is a gentler rhythm to life, but the legacy of innovation remains.
Drawing deep inspiration from Shropshire’s iron masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially Abraham Darby, the pioneer behind the world’s first iron bridge, Netherton Foundry blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern environmental conscience. Their work reimagines the spirit of that extraordinary era, honouring its ingenuity while being mindful of the environmental lessons it left behind.
Each product is a celebration of heritage, quality, and sustainability, reflecting a time when things were made to last and made with care.
