What is Silicone?
Silicone is made from sand (silica) and carbon, natural resources that give stasher bags the purity of glass and functionality of plastic. Better yet, stasher products are made of 100% pure platinum grade silicone – a standard even higher than food-grade silicone, passing all U.S. safety requirements and even tougher European standards. Silicone is safer, more flexible, and more sustainable than plastic. Plastic is a petroleum-based product that introduces toxic chemicals to our food and environmental concerns to our planet. There are no fillers or toxic products in Stasher bags —no BPA, BPS, lead, latex, or phthalates.
Additionally, stasher’s non-porous silicone surface helps inhibit bacterial growth, mould and germs.

Best way to wash a Stasher bag?

Stashers are dishwasher friendly, top or bottom rack! Just place your bag open and facing downward on a few of the dishwasher spokes. You can also handwash your Stasher bags with soapy water and a bristle brush. We recommend flushing the seal out with water after each use to make sure to clean out any lingering food. Sometimes Stasher bags need a little more drying time once they’re washed by hand or in the dishwasher. We recommend using any non-sharp kitchen items to stand your bags on, including bottles, cups, or paper towel holders. When you let them air dry, sometimes you can get water spots on the silicone. They’re completely harmless, just not as attractive as a crystal clear Stasher, so you can avoid these by giving your Stasher a quick wipe down with a clean towel

Can the Stasher absorb smells?

Stasher Silicone is nonporous, inhibiting bacterial growth and odours. Certain smelly foods may leave a slight odour in the bag, but that can be remedied with a thorough washing or baking soda soaking.

  1. Soak your bag in a 50/50 warm water and vinegar bath for a few hours.
  2. Bake in the oven on a baking sheet for eight minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to let your bag cool and use an oven mitt to handle your bags.
  3. For tougher smells, double up and use both methods. A fresh slice of lemon left in overnight can also help.

Can the Stasher stain?

As there are no toxic sealants used on Stasher, certain foods can make the silicone stain. In the case that the Stasher has stained, it is easy to clean:

  1. Make a baking soda paste with vinegar or water.
  2. Apply to the discoloured container.
  3. Let sit for at least 20-30 mins.
  4. Rinse and wash the bag like normal.

You can also set your Stasher in sunlight for a few hours to naturally sun bleach stains (really!). This works great for tomato sauce, carrot, or watermelon stains, just to name a few.

Should I turn my Stasher bag inside out to clean it?

The short answer is no. We advise against turning your Stasher inside out, as this can damage the seals and implicate your bag’s integrity over time.

Make your Stasher bags last the distance

  • Use coloured Stasher bags to store like-coloured foods and camouflage stains.
  • Avoid using your bags to store sharp objects, and definitely don’t use them as cutting boards.
  • Avoid trapping moisture by storing your clean Stasher bags with the seals open.
  • Don’t force the bag to open farther than it does naturally. To open: hold your thumbs flat over each side of the seal and gently roll them down and away from each other. To close: squeeze out excess air to keep things super fresh, then press to seal.
