Material:

Leather

Use & Care:

Packing your roll:

  1. Make sure each knife is clean and completely dry before it goes in.
  2. Place longer and wider knives (chef’s, santoku, nakiri, bread) in the two larger slots. Place paring, utility and steak knives in the two smaller slots.
  3. Slide each blade in slowly and straight. Never force a knife into a slot.
  4. For the neatest roll, place the knife in the left-hand large slot with the Shun logo facing up. Place the knives in the other three slots with the back of the blade facing up. Handle shapes differ, and this helps the roll sit evenly.
  5. Fold the top flap down over the handles, roll the case up and wrap the leather cord around it.

Caring for the leather:

  • Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. For marks, use a lightly damp cloth, then let it air dry.
  • Never soak the roll, put it in water, or put it in a washing machine or dishwasher.
  • If it gets wet, take the knives out and let the leather dry naturally at room temperature, away from heaters and direct sun.
  • Store it away from heat and strong sunlight, which can dry out and fade leather.
  • Every few months, treat it with a good-quality leather conditioner. Test it on a small hidden area first.
  • Do not store damp knives in the roll. Moisture trapped against the blade is not good for the steel or the leather.
  • Genuine leather has natural grain marks and small variations. It softens and gains character with use.
