Where Every Cookie Begins with a Story

Not every baking tool carries a deeper meaning.
Some simply do their job. Others become part of family traditions, creating memories that are passed from one generation to the next.
Kuki Reka Kani are one of those special creations.
Proudly designed and manufactured in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton, these beautifully detailed cookie cutters are the result of an inspiring social enterprise developed by Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust. Every design celebrates Te Ao Māori while encouraging connection, creativity, and time spent together in the kitchen.
Whether you’re baking with tamariki, preparing treats for Matariki, making thoughtful handmade gifts, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon of baking, Kuki Reka Kani transform an everyday activity into something far more meaningful.
The Story Behind Kuki Reka Kani
One of the things we love most about this collection is the story behind it.
Kuki Reka Kani was developed by kaumātua (respected Māori elders) through Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust, a Hamilton-based organisation dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of kaumātua throughout the Waikato.
The project grew from REKA (Rauawaawa Enterprise for Kaumātua Aspirations), the Trust’s social enterprise established to create sustainable income while supporting its programmes and community initiatives.
What began as an innovative idea soon became something much bigger.

The cookie cutters were developed through cooking therapy programmes for kaumātua, where baking became a way to encourage conversation, spark memories, and celebrate te reo Māori, storytelling, and cultural identity.
Cooking naturally engages the senses through smell, taste, and touch. These experiences can evoke memories, inspire storytelling, and create opportunities for meaningful connection across generations.
Today, every Kuki Reka Kani continues that legacy. Designed and manufactured in New Zealand, they support local production while sharing Māori stories, symbolism, and creativity with home bakers across Aotearoa and beyond.
Beautifully Designed for Everyday Baking
While many cookie stamps focus purely on decoration, Kuki Reka Kani have been thoughtfully designed to be both beautiful and practical.
Their generous handles make them comfortable to hold for bakers of all ages, while the detailed embossing creates intricate patterns with a single press, making professional-looking biscuits achievable without complicated decorating techniques. Each cutter features intricate embossed artwork inspired by traditional Māori designs, producing beautifully detailed results that look just as impressive uniced as they do decorated.
They’re perfect for creating:

A Collection Rich in Meaning
Every Kuki Reka Kani design celebrates an aspect of Aotearoa’s culture, natural environment, or visual heritage, making each baking session an opportunity to share stories and learn something new.
Created to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year, this cutter honours the star cluster that signals a time of remembrance, reflection, gratitude, and new beginnings. For many whānau, baking together has become a wonderful way to celebrate Matariki, sharing food while creating new traditions for future generations.

Known as New Zealand’s iconic Christmas tree, the pōhutukawa bursts into brilliant crimson bloom each summer and holds special significance within both the natural landscape and Māori tradition. Its distinctive flowers make an especially striking embossed cookie.

The Original Set features three much-loved designs:
- Pāua
- Kete
- Pikorua (single twist)
Together, they celebrate themes of connection, knowledge, growth, and whakapapa, making this collection a beautiful introduction to Kuki Reka Kani.

Celebrating some of New Zealand’s best-loved native birds, the Manu Set includes:
Each design honours the remarkable wildlife unique to Aotearoa while recognising the cultural stories and significance associated with these treasured manu.

Inspired by one of New Zealand’s most recognisable Māori motifs, the Koru Set includes:

The Māra Set celebrates treasured native plants and landscapes that are deeply connected to Aotearoa, including:
Beautifully detailed and distinctly New Zealand, these designs offer another meaningful way to bring our natural environment into everyday baking.

Baking That Brings Generations Together
Few kitchen activities bring people together quite like baking. Rolling dough, pressing cookie cutters into soft biscuit mixture, and decorating freshly baked treats naturally encourages conversation, storytelling, and shared traditions.
That spirit of connection sits at the heart of Kuki Reka Kani.
They’re equally at home in family kitchens, classrooms, community groups, or holiday baking sessions, offering a creative way to explore Māori culture while spending quality time together.
Whether it’s grandparents baking alongside grandchildren or friends preparing biscuits for a weekend treat, these cookie cutters help create memories that last long after the last biscuit has disappeared.

So Much More Than Cookies
Despite their name, Kuki Reka Kani are incredibly versatile.
Try using them for:
- Homemade crackers
- Pastry pie toppers
- Fondant decorations
