Red leaves crunch underfoot, a brisk wind whips around your ears, days grow shorter, and the weather is cold and wet. Yes, it’s time to dig out your cardigans and warmer coats because autumn has arrived. Our taste in tea changes in autumn as light, summery brews gives way to warming, spicy flavours that capture fall to a ‘tee’. But while the long, dark evenings aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, there’s much to rejoice in the fall. Make the most of shorter days by heading outside to enjoy the beautiful autumn colours, then cosy up indoors to savour autumnal evenings with a warming brew.

Here are Bodum‘s favourite teas to drink in autumn.

1. Darjeeling

Pinkies out, it’s time to enjoy one of the poshest teas around! Affectionately known as the ‘champagne of teas’, Darjeeling hails from the foothills of the Himalayas. And this much-loved tea is ideal to sip in autumn. It’s best enjoyed as a loose-leaf tea brewed in Bodum’s ASSAM tea press, so you can watch the amber liquid develop. Once brewed, enjoy its subtle floral flavour and gentle sweetness while curled up with a good book.

2. Masala Chai

Masala chai is a standout favourite during autumn. This traditional spiced black tea offers a warming brew that’s full of flavour. Discover the alluring aroma of cardamom and delicate notes of cinnamon, cloves and black pepper, against the backdrop of a high-quality black tea.  Spicy, yet smooth with a hint of sweetness, chai is best enjoyed with a splash of milk.

3. Rooibos

Also known as redbush, rooibos is a classic red tea from South Africa. Popular amongst the health-conscious, this naturally mild tea is caffeine-free and full of antioxidants. An earthy tea with a hint of sweetness, rooibos can be enjoyed with or without milk. For a rich, full-bodied flavour and enhanced sweetness that’s ideal for autumn, try vanilla rooibos. It also provides a good base for a caffeine-free chai tea.

4. Apple & Cinnamon Black Tea

Bound to remind you of grandma’s homemade apple pie, the classic duo of sweet, juicy apple and punchy cinnamon spice offers a perfect autumnal drink when combined with high-grade black tea. Deliciously fruity with warming spices, this sweet and spicy cuppa makes the ideal companion to afternoon tea with fruit scones or chilly autumnal evenings next to a log fire.

5. Pumpkin Spice

Celebrate the best of the season with an energising black tea infused with pumpkin spice. This Halloween-inspired blend offers a true taste of fall, mixing the rich, smoothness of spiced pumpkin soup with a high-quality black tea. Great with a splash of milk, this spicy, uplifting brew is just the thing for keeping toasty on chilly autumn evenings. Even better, you can enjoy the comforting flavour of spiced pumpkin pie with none of the calories!
